“Wild man´s bay” is the English meaning of the name Lappeenranta. The Finnish town, situated in south-east Carelia not far from the Russian border, has been hosting the 23th European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE 23), June 9-12, 2013. More than 200 expert visitors from Europe and overseas (USA, Southeast Asia, and South Africa) gave the event an international touch.

In Lappeenranta, together with the Laboratory of Plant and Process Design of the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany, INOSIM has introduced a cooperation project under the title INOSIM Bio - new approaches for bioprocess simulation and optimization.  INOSIM employee Katrin Sulzbacher pointed out new approaches for a more cost-effective and environmental-friendly production by the aid of consulting services for process engineering, which, together with process simulation software, can help to improve production in batch and bioprocessing industries.

Details on the project and the chosen case study can be found in the conference proceedings.
