From October 1-5, this year, the 10th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (WCCE10) took place in Barcelona, Spain. Integrated were the 11th European Congress of Chemical Engineering (ECCE11) and the 4th European Congress of Applied Biotechnology (ECAB4).

INOSIM was represented within the project “Biomass Substituting Oil” of the German LPX Group GmbH (Marienwerder).

In the lecture program, Dr Friedrich Streffer (LPX) reported on Processing woody biomass – pilot plant and simulation prove feasibility and profitableness! He described a process by which biomass of the second generation, such as herbal fermenting leftovers, lignified biomass and agrarian rest materials, is made a available as raw material for the substitution of fossil resources in the chemical industry. This is said to be revolutionary procedure, since up to now the urgently required bio-based chemicals and fuels are produced mainly of sugar-containing or starchy food, like sugarcane and corn.

INOSIM´s contribution were Scale-Up and optimization, from the lab to production. The following financing of a pilot plant – and with it the development of the whole procedure to industrial maturity – only became possible by that.

All information on the congress can be found in the event´s homepage.
